Streets of Rage 4

Simply put, I love this game.

I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to hear that there would be a new SoR4 coming out soon. I love the original three games on the SEGA Genesis and I’m happy to report that this game not only keeps the series going with a fun, new entry but it also gives us a modern twist.

If you’ve played the other games in the series, then you know what to expect. Beat em ups have been kind of neglected the last few years with the exception of Raging Justice. Players will go from section to section, beating up anything that gets in your way. It may sound simple enough, but this game is difficult (at least to me) even offering up a challenge on the easy mode. There are several levels of difficulty to choose from. To start with you have four characters to pick from. Each one has its plus and minuses. There is also a chance to unlock other characters from the previous games.

SoR4 wouldn’t pass muster if it didn’t have a rocking soundtrack. I’m happy to report that the music is just as good as the original games.  The soundtrack is pumping and really gets you in the mood to dish out painful combos on your poor, unaware enemies. However, they won’t take a beating standing still. You have to earn every point you get. Stringing together combos will help you in this endeavor.

I could go on and on singing the praises of this game, but I think you get the point. SoR4 is a great, fun game that you can play online or by yourself. This isn’t a review so I won’t bore you with a 2,000 word post. Instead, I offer you a suggestion. If you miss this genre or even if you’re new to it, this is a great place to start. You can’t go wrong picking this game up. It’s fast paced, fun and there are genuine white knuckles moments. My advice, pick this game up. It’s available on pretty much all platforms and it’s cheap. Do yourself a favor and give it a spin!
