Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

I admit, I was a bit skeptical about IJGC. I didn’t think it would be good in first person. I didn’t think that Bethesda could pull it off. I was wrong. IJGC is a fantastic title that should be experienced by all gamers and Indy fans.

To me, the best part is the fan service. The game oozes Indiana Jones, from the music to the witty banter, everything is there. The facial expressions of Indy are just like they are in the movies. It’s hilarious swashbuckling fun for hours. You really feel like you are the great Dr. Jones, globetrotting exotic locals in search of your next clue. To be honest with you, I can’t think of a single thing that I didn’t like about the game.

Visually speaking, it’s gorgeous. The character models are on point. Indy looks like Harrison Ford. He sounds like him as well. The lighting is near perfect and the different locations all look beautiful.  If you’re in the Vatican or the pyramids of Egypt, it all looks wonderful. Plenty of NPC’s walking around help to flesh out the locals, making them feel lived in. Not just some empty backgrounds that look good, everything just works. The textures are amazing too. Cloth looks like cloth, metal like metal. In Egypt, you can even see the heat waves rising up from the sands.

The gameplay is no slouch either. It takes a second to get used to the fighting with your hands but when you do, it’s satisfying. There are guns to use but it really comes down to your fists and your whip. You can whip weapons out of peoples hands or you can wrangle them up, pulling them towards you finishing them off with a few well placed punches. The whip is also used for traversal. It’s really the most important tool you have.

I could talk about this game for hours but the best thing you can do is play it for yourself. If you have Game Pass it’s available for you there. If not, it’s on PC and will be on the Playstation later this year.
