Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga Episode 3

I’m a sucker for old beat ‘em up games. Fortunately for me, both Xbox and PlayStation have a bunch to choose from. Warrior Blade is my latest acquisition, and it doesn’t disappoint.

Basically, it’s Golden Axe with much improved graphics and in my opinion, better playability and replay ability. Even the characters you choose to play look very similar.  The Conan like warrior with bare chest and giant sword (and don’t forget the loin cloth). Then there is the female thief equipped with a whip and then there’s this guy that uses daggers, but I haven’t played as him yet. All in all, they’re kind of generic. But you must remember, this is an old game, and you have to look at it from that angle in order to truly appreciate this Golden Axe like game.

It’s very basic control wise. Attack and jump, that’s it and that’s all you need. It was a much simpler time when this was made. Taito did a really good job with this game considering the time period and the technology available to them. The thing about this game is that it was never released in the west when it first hit arcades in Japan in 1991. I’m playing it on the PS5 but it’s available on the Nintendo Switch.

Truth be told, this game makes me feel young again. It’s cheap, looks good and its easy fun. If you’re looking for a Golden Axe like beat ‘em up, look no further. Warrior Blade is worth your dollar and your time.
