If you’re into top down, vertical shoot ‘em ups then look no further than this excellent title. Cygni may be short and sweet, but it’s worth the price of entry.
The first thing that grabbed my attention were the graphics. For a budget title it looks really good. It gives off a War of the Worlds (the Tom Cruise version) vibe. It’s not particularly colorful, colors are used sparingly, but it’s all very modern in its presentation. Everything is sharp and realistic. Well, as realistic as a space invasion can get. But don’t spend too much admiring the games visuals, this sucker is hard. It took me awhile to get past the first mission. It’s hard, but it’s fair. I never felt like I was being cheated, just my mistakes. You do have shields so you can absorb a few hits.
I absolutely love the soundtrack to this game. It sounds like a big budget, Hollywood orchestral piece. It totally matches the action on screen. I was waiting for Danny Elfman to walk out from behind stage. It’s soaring and fantastical all while being a little dark as well. Very well done.
All in all, the short and sweet of it is, if you like games like this, you’ll like this game. It’s pretty to look at and has really good gameplay. The music and sound fit the bill. The only thing that’s “bad” is how short the game is. If you can get over that, a great game awaits. I say buy it.
